Original Letter sent to MID VALLEY

April 23, 2001

To:       Mid Valley Youth Baseball Board Members

Re:            Organization of club team

To all interested board members,

We have greatly enjoyed playing here again through the Fall of 2000 and Spring now of 2001. My son has enjoyed the higher level of play found here and so have we.

We are writing this letter to bring you up to date with our plans to form a private club team for players now “age 11” birth dates August 1, 1989 – July 31, 1990. We are doing this now to ensure a solid group for the up coming summer tournament season and the planning of a Fall/Spring AAU club season.

What we plan to do is create a strong team with dedicated and interested players who are willing to stay together for many months with a goal to enter the Cooperstown Dreams Tournament in late the summer of 2002. Most field usage would occur after Pony league and Pony Post season on play has concluded. Prior tryouts and potential practices could occur in the latest hours of the weekends.

The team administration plans include myself, Harry Grace, as Field and Business Manager and Steve Takeyama as Assistant Manager and Head Coach. Additional coaching positions have been discussed with some known and experienced Mid Valley parents but we asked for no commitment until we presented our intentions to the board,

Our goal is to represent Mid Valley with a team that is both competitive and presents a positive representation of Mid Valley Youth Baseball. We are looking for a core of Mid Valley players but expect to bring players from other local leagues to join us. We are doing this not only to strengthen our own team but also to bring in some new players for Fall 2001 and beyond. We plan to do some scouting and then hold an open tryout for all interested players.

We do not wish to disrupt the existing MV Mayhem team or the leagues Pony Tournament season and any players involved with both teams will first support the MV Mayhem and MV Tournament teams before focusing on this new organization.

As we think you all know the attrition point for most youth sports starts around the 12 to 14 year old age group. Many of these are Little Leaguers who cannot fit well into the major league park dimensions after playing on a 60’ base line field through age 12. Mid Valley Pony and Colt Divisions could swell if more of these players are introduced to Pony Baseball’s age progressive field dimensions.

What we are interested in is not for Mid Valley to sponsor this effort but to sanction it. Sponsorship implies funding and liability responsibility for the league. Sanctioned would imply field availability for practice and games. This group would be self insured and funded; contributions would be appreciated but never requested.

We hope that this letter is not thought of as presumptuous but is received in the spirit in which it was conceived. To see the fields’ dormant throughout the summer is a terrible waste of precious suburban resources.

Sincerely,

Harry Grace

Re:       Team Purpose

To interested parties,

This letter is to provide a brief explanation of out team mission and purpose. We are organizing this team to provide a learning and competitive environment. We plan to teach the players with all our collective knowledge not only the athletic skills of this game but the strategic and mental sides of this game.

We are doing this now to ensure a solid group for the up coming summer tournament season and the planning of a Fall/Spring AAU club season.

The team administration plans include myself, Harry Grace, as Field and Business Manager and Steve Takeyama as Assistant Manager and Head Coach, and Greg Porte as Assistant Coach. When additional expertise is required we have a great resource group including the staff at Ron Dales West Coast Baseball School who may run some clinics with us this summer.

Our goal is to present a team that is both competitive and presents a positive representation of Youth Baseball. We are looking for a core of Mid Valley players but expect to bring players from other local leagues to join us.

We plan to provide a High school level athletic environment for our players.  Expectations will be high and cooperation a must. We will focus on team play and position assignments that are realistic and will teach each player skills for the positions their particular skill sets lend themselves to.

In high school and college level athletics coaches are looking for talent that is cacheable. This means that players are eager to learn and ready to hustle when at game or practice.
